Arthor Ray Bag

My name is yrdog4now. Admittedly it is not
what my father calls. Nor for that matter
what my sons call me. Not only that, but
what my sons call me is not what my father
calls me. This may explain why I do not have
a statue of dad on my lawn.

I attended Bard college where upon entry
I submitted my poems to an incredibly huge
poet who the school was bust out proud to
have on the faculty. He was a big poet and
he was a huge person. The chair he sat on
could not be seen when he sat on it. It
struck me as a compelling form of tenure.
In any case, he handed me back my poems
and said "you can't be serious". I was
crushed by that 450 lb opinion and didn't
write a poem for quite some time.

I've recovered of course. I now have children,
a mandolin, and a few friends. Oh, and a lawn
of all things. It is, of course, anyone's guess
if what I now scribble ought be considered
poetry. To quote Sam, "I can't go on, I'll go on."

So I do. And you can call me Otis if that helps.

Bill Beaver

Here is a bio:

Leave it to Beaver - a lost episode

The Beaver is picking over a plate of watery mashed potatoes. They are lumpy, some of the lumps are dark w/rot. His stomach hurts. Ward is raving about Work. He's a nuclear engineer. He makes weapons. The politics, the back biting, his evil co-workers. "Bastards! ... SOBs!" he mutters between mouthfuls of rubbery meat loaf. He raves on & on heating the kitchen w/his thick breathe. He stomps out - to the living room to sit in his Chair - plops down. Ward is 6'5" tipping 325 lbs. As he gets larger, Chair - grey corduroy, high arms - sinks lower. Ward watches TV, reads detective novel after detective novel stacked on the floor or sometimes does Work. There are piles of Work all through the house. Piles June is forbidden to touch or clean, as if she would.

June Cleaver leaves next, leaves the table - congealed food, dirty dishes. She goes to her room upstairs. There she takes eleven Seconals, eleven the magic number for sleep, washes them down w/six or seven glasses of sweet wine. She waits an hour for maximum effect, then takes position at the top of the stairs. It is her turn to rave. She does. Ward ignores her. She turns her attention to the Beaver. " ... stay away from that Eddie Haskell ... that ... that ... little faggot! ... & stay away from those Catholic girls ... they'll just give you babies ... want nothing else ... like those damn Kennedys ... some President ... I WISH HE WAS DEAD!" "HE IS DEAD YOU FUCKING IDIOT!" screams Ward. As if on cue June swan dives down the stairs, lands in a heap at the bottom, not even hurt. The Beaver goes to his room. He finds it profoundly disturbing the sight of his mother on the floor - dress hiked-up, legs akimbo. She watches him go up. "The boy is growing" she thinks w/a leer.

The Beaver passes Ward's room, a vast unmade bed, sheets yellowed, shit stained. He grabs a book from a huge pile or from various boxes. The Beaver likes to skim read Ward's books, look for the dirty parts, masturbate. Since June moved to the guest room Ward's books have contained more & more dirty parts. Sometimes just the cover is enough for the Beaver. One of his favorites a woman tied to a chair. In bra, panties, stockings w/garters. Her legs are tied apart. She's looking up in terror, fascination at - in close foreground - the hairy hand of a man holding a huge syringe - drop of liquid oozing from it's needle tip. Does the trick every time. Now he has picked "Ulysses" by James Joyce. A strange book, yet he is actually reading it. Outside - sky black, Metzger's Field white crusted ice blown free of loose snow, chill knife of wind howling, rattling the frosted storm windows. The Beaver thinks of death as this - a wind through endless winter night. He looks up at the bed next to his. Wally isn't there. Never was - never will be. The Beaver doesn't know a Wally, never fought a pillow fight. The storm windows rattle, he reads on ... it is close to morning ... he is reading Molly Bloom's soliloquy ...bill

I have vague memories about the 49 years that led me to this spot in time, and I can only paint bits of whatever it was from time to time in the poetry that appears here. I remember that when asked what I wanted to be as a child, I would retort, "a cartoon character". I thinks that I have quickly approached that status while spending time in VP's Excite community.(yes, at Ninians Poetry Cafe). I bounce off the walls there as "climbmax".

YO! I live almost anywhere from Philadelphia to L.A. and I keep up with the rest in between. also, I maintain the royal titles of editor/publisher/poet/columist/webmistress of the HOLD e-zine, plus I design web sites and I pretend to be a poet.
unlike others, my poetry and other stuff I write is unlike others. you swim inside my mind and see what it's like...my stuff has appeared in  the HOLD, Thunder Sandwich,  PoetikLicense and Poetry Central and in places no one would dare crawl into or out of. I have not banned catholic organizations or the frail of explicit language from my website. chapbooks available: "in the midst of erected poems" and "Smell ME-1."
don't ask, I'm just  "here"  for some odd reason!

    dickens

Dickens. Born illegitimate when it was shameful, son of a WWII marine who, missing in action, turned back up--for one night, at least. Thanx, Dad. Mom was Rosie the Riveter at aircraft plant in Wichita, KS, then became Lois the Dominatrix long before any of us heard of the word. Enormous physical abuse, but at least she didn't charge. Reform school at 16 (bank robbery, car theft, assault, B&E), 17th birthday in solitary confinement. Successful escape, meaning the bastards never caught me. Higher education at various colleges and universities, including Kansas University as well as studying Hawaiian and Japanese languages in Honolulu. English Major. 26 or so years in Honolulu, 3 in Vancouver. Taught English in Japan. 3 great kids, 1 of whom still loves me. Hopeless drunk, currently sober. Homeless. Dharma Bum. Damn good poet. Kinky, too.

I am a software exec. and I do secret internet foo. I live near Boston, Massachusetts and spend a lot of time in San Francisco.
I began writing poetry a few years ago in a brave but ultimately feckless attempt to stave off a canonical entrapment breakdown. I sometimes write with a pseudonym: Yorick_Nixon. I also write music and play musical instruments. I was a member of Boston noise band Inner Beauty and San Francisco improv combo Senator Buchanon. With the members of Inner Beauty I co-authored a pre-web internet published dystopic novel entitled "Skunk Angst".
Any spare time I have I read Shakespeare or listen to Bach. Bach seems to be the one thing all nerds agree on. I've lost touch with my culture. Though my friend Janet has turned me onto Cat Power. My only firmly held cultural belief is that Chan Marshall of Cat Power is kind of a babe.

    Sally Mour

    Biography:

Growing up by the shores of the Atlantic Ocean just eighteen miles from New York City the author, Sally Mour began seriously writing at the ripe old age of ten years old. While her first love was journalism, the difficulty of breaking into that field opened other opportunities. In a short period of time, Poetry surfaced as her one true love. Now older then dirt, she resides bi-coastally between California and Michigan. While playing part time computer consultant, she never leaves the love of the written word.

    Night Hawke

It's been said Hawke is a Poet Sprite caught in the corporate cracks by his most eloquent and respected friend. Others have merely said he's fucked up and unhappy.
Having grown up in the soybean fields of West Tennessee he's now a nearly 40ish biker poet living around Chicagoland somewhere.
Hawke finally admited he qualifies as a poet due to his bi-polaresque mood swings but refuses to take medication for it. After all, why fuck up the one thing he has going for him?
As a musician, photographer, digital artist, writer, and fitness nut he maintains his humility is what makes him great. His creative endeavors are aimed at overthrowing the western culture he has proclaimed dead and injecting passion back into the universe.
Though many find it odd that a counterculture rebel is dedicated to helping people get fit he points out, "In a culture where over 50% of the adult population is obese (that's 97million Amerikans) getting away from the TV remote is radical!. And if people get fit they might actually have some real sex sometime--what a concept."
         On the subject of his identity he says;
"-- Now what's the point of being underground if you're not going incognito??? Sheesh people give me a break. And no -- I'm not in the witness protection program. I'm not even in Amway"
The real story of how he earned his moniker can be found at his site in the poem titled "Hank Killed the Devil in the Harland Bottom Bog / Tennessee collection.

    A Thumbnail Bio

Hi...I'm Redd_k, a 20 year-old girly as of this writing, in no way normal, so I remain partially anonymous. Who cares? I live in Redding, CA where I was born, had 12 years of parochial schooling and lack only two classes to earn my AA in business. I do intend to go on for the BA, but no hurry because I am already "positioned" as a partner in my best friend's on-going business as a consultant to cosmetics companies' marketing departments. My writing had always been private until I met MSallthat who encouraged me to put some of it in the internet. I'm not really a poet, but have tried that too. Mostly I write opinionated pieces because I need the outlet, but how much of that deserves to be in the Hold I leave to MS's good judgment.
One of my quirks is a total fascination with Faerie, so I will submit pieces of that nature as well. I am half Irish and not only believe in the Faeries; I depend on them. My other half is Japanese, and they as a people are pretty weird too, believing in a netherword of their own, so I am a complete and willing victim of the Little People. If you read my stuff, go ahead and put your tongue in your cheek, but I at least am serious about what I write. If you want to get back at me, try  reddcalm@hotmail.com

    Lincoln Sward

Lincoln Sward: born 10/08/74 in Escondido, CA

I really don’t know what this is all about. I was just writing these poems for therapy...and to give me an idea where I was at in life. All of it seemed as if it were the way things are and that I could relate more to my reality then I could others. So I let it live and gave it a home on page.
Now alive..and better off than I was I started to share this life with others..it’s better than nothing and I already have enough of that.
