Both are fresh from a past
Neither were intentionally looking
Angie is waiting for the call
Joel swore he would make
while Rachel basks in
the scents of perpetual roses
I listen with my own memories
flashing like a daytime soap

Angie passed out
while Rachel dished her dirt
not remembered the day after
4am call to Jason
to retreive her from Joels
and Angie shows up for work
in yesterday's clothes
to worry on Rachel's disclosure
But Rachel draws a blank
on what Joel may now remember

while Rachel is now
riding a teeter-totter
of naughty and nice
as her ex-Dan calls
with touch reminders

Angie made it through
almost half the movie
Her vision blurred by want
Wrapped in the need of Joel
this tangle is on its way

like a background check

while Jason holds more nutrition

and picks up someone new
Testing waters more torrent
than those she has treaded
The ex-coworker who mothered
the child he gave her in reluctance
is not a disarmed landmine
so Rachel steps on tiptoes
looking both ways across
When she gets to the other side
she'll need her legs to leave him

of allowing her estrus
free reign with Joel
